'Regal Gaze' from The Wild Ones - £7,000
"Regal Gaze" is a portrait inspired by a photo taken from a helicopter in Kenya. It distinguishes itself in my collection as the sole piece not related to Longleat. During my time in Kenya, I had the privilege of spending time with the Sheldrick Trust team, renowned figures in the wildlife conservation field. As part of the Aerial Surveillance Unit, they operate fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, covering extensive distances on patrol every month. This particular shot was taken during one of their patrols in late 2023.
Despite capturing many phenomenal shots during my tour of the Longleat Safari, none of the lion images provided the unique composition I desired for this collection. Aware that lions were a popular choice among buyers, I refused to settle for anything less than the distinctive angles, compositions, and depths I envisioned and had already begun developing with the other pieces in this collection. The original photo captivated me with its aerial and elevated perspective, offering a fresh and captivating view of these majestic creatures, so it was a blessing it fell into my path as I was finalising the chosen 6 compositions, and a privilege I was granted permission to use this image.
